Senior Advocate Surendra Bhandari on Thursday drew the attention of the Nepal Bar Association (NBA) about death threats he had allegedly received from Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli.Senior Advocate Surendra Bhandari on Thursday drew the attention of the Nepal Bar Association (NBA) about death threats he had allegedly received from Chief Justice Gopal Parajuli.
On Wednesday, Bhandari had lodged a complaint at the District Administration Office (DAO) Kathmandu seeking security protection in the context of threats he received from the CJ.
Bhandari registered an application at NBA Secretariat, after consultations with high-level officials of NBA.
“The death threat issued by Chief Justice is against the professional code of ethics. He is also meeting with the advocates who are part of the hearing on the cases registered against him,” Bhandari told the Post. However, the NBA is not an authorised body to investigate the matter.
“I registered an application with a view that NBA could express concern about the issues relating to judiciary and public concern,” Bhandari said, urging all the stakeholders concerned to be serious in finding out the facts.
“We must focus on fact-finding and action must be taken against the guilty.
Bhandari said that CJ Parajuli issued death threats to him first on January 10 after the conclusion of hearing on the contempt of court case. Bhandari claimed that Parajuli threatened him again last Thursday when an article related to judiciary was published in a newspaper.
CJ Parajuli, however, has dismissed the charges against him saying that there have been attempts to spread fake information.
Speaking at a public programme in Birgunj on Wednesday, Parajuli said like in other countries there are law-brokers in Nepal who are trying to take law into their hands.
