Mayanka makes it to quarters

Mayanka Rana remained the last player to carry the Nepali flag in the  Nepal ITF Junior U-18 Circuit 2 Tournament after advancing to the girls  singles quarter-finals on Wednesday.

Mayanka beat her compatriot Ira Mebernissa Rawat 6-1, 6-2 in their second  round clash. Her twin sister Mahika lost to Mio Kozaki of Japan 6-3, 6-1  in another girls’ singles match. Others to make it to the girls’ singles  quarter-finals include Yiming Dan of China, Chui Kei Leung of Hong Kong  and Indians Hruday Shah, Prinkle Singh, Trisha Vinod and Sanya Sing. 

Another Nepali player Pranav Khanal suffered a double bagel defeat  against Keiju Miyake of Japan in the boys’ singles pre-quarter-final  match. Joining Miyake in the quarter-finals were his teammates Daisuke  Inagawa and Taisei Kageyama, India’s Aaryan Zaveri and Naithaolin Calvin  Golmei, Korea’s Jiho Lee, China’s Wenmao Li and Malaysia’s Jian Keong  Takeshi Koey. 

None of the Nepali players passed the second round hurdles in the doubles. Khanal teamed up with Korean Jiho Lee but lost 7-6 (3), 6-2 to  Indian pair Golmei and Shashikant Rajput. Joining them in the boys’  doubles semi-finals were the pair of India;s Anurag Agarwal and Michal  Wargocki of Poland, Jingyuan Chen of China and Jong Chun Lee of Hong  Kong, and Taiyo Hirano of Japan and Koey of Malaysia.

Two Nepali pair were in hunt for the girls’ doubles semi-finals but both  crashed out. Mahika and Mayanka lost 6-0, 6-2 to Skia Kung of Taipei and  Chui Kei Leung of Hong Kong, while Abhilasha Bista and Ira Rawat went  down 6-1, 6-4 to Prinkle Singh and Aspreet Kaur Bajwa of India. Yiming  Dang of China and Manami Ukita of Japan also advanced to the girls’  doubles semi-finals.
