Finding satisfaction

If you take some time to observe this world and the people living in it, you will find that no one is truly happy. Both the rich and the poor will say that they are not completely satisfied with their lives. There is no one in this world who can claim to be completely satisfied. Ask the saints, and you will hear things like, “This world is not our place. We should seek spiritual things and be more concerned about the coming life.”

Have you ever asked yourself this question: “Why am I here?” Well, in my case, I have asked this question almost on a daily basis. Sometimes, I come to the conclusion that everything is worthless. I strongly agree with Shakespeare’s statement that, “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players; they have their exits and their entrances, and one man in his time plays many parts.”

If you look closely at human nature, you will find that mankind is a special species that is never totally satisfied with anything. Once, a long time ago, we didn’t even know how to light a fire, now we know how to travel the universe, yet we are not satisfied. Even in a normal human’s life, a person is never happy for too long. In this modern world, everyone is seeking happiness, yet no one is truly happy. People try different approaches to achieve happiness. Some think that marrying a beautiful or handsome person will make them happy. Some think that accumulating as much wealth as possible will make them happy. Some think that getting fame and having a highly sophisticated lifestyle will make them happy. However, if they do manage to achieve these goals, they are still not truly happy.

If you have everything that you thought you wanted, yet still can never be content, then why are you here? What is it that your soul truly wants? If you look around, you can see that people who get things they thought they wanted are never fully satisfied. So no amount of education, wealth, or fame could fully satisfy a human. A human always wants more. This begs a philosophical question for each individual.

If humans have tried to make this world a better place and still have not succeeded, now is the time that they should question themselves. Who knows, perhaps we are not meant for this world and there is another world—an alternate reality—where everyone can be happy, satisfied and fully content. If so, we need to set plans to find this world. You can find God if you search hard, they say. So why not another world? If this sounds impossible then we need to begin thinking seriously about the cause behind our dissatisfaction.
