Prime Minister Oli had withdrawn the names of Gopal Basnet, Krishna Prasad Poudel and Chandani Joshi, recommended to the NA by his predecessor Deuba, and forwarded the names of Yubaraj Khatiwada, Bimala Poudel and Ram Narayan Poudel after entering Baluwatar.
Deuba’s nominees, Basnet, Poudel and Joshi, have filed a writ at the Supreme Court claiming that repudiation of their nominations by the Oli government is unconstitutional.
They have sought for an interim order to halt the oath ceremony of the three NA members appointed by the Oli government.
The petitioners have also questioned President Bidya Devi Bhandari’s decision to swiftly approve the names of their replacements.
There was no legal basis for the President to snub the recommendations made by the legitimate government of Deuba, the petitioners have argued.
