Koju claims Kathmandu Pinkathon

Koju clocked one hour, 20 minutes and 21 seconds to win the race ahead of Sarita Basi of Tribhuvan Army Club (TAC) and Pushpa Bhandari of Nepal Police Club (NPC). She had won the first edition in 1:18:20 hours.
Basi was a distant second place finisher clocking 1:25:01 hours, while Bhandari timed 1:27:02 hours. The top three finishers of this event got Rs 60,000, Rs 40,000 and Rs 20,000 respectively.
APF also got hold of the women’s 10km race with Santoshi Shrestha taking the gold in 38:40 minutes. Her clubmate Bindra Shrestha finished second in 39:42 minutes and another TAC runner Reshu Basnet took bronze in 40:45. The podium finishers got Rs 30,000, Rs 20,000 and Rs 10,000 respectively.
The event, organised by Leisure Port Nepal, had to be held at Nepal Police Academy in Maharajgunj due to construction work at the Dashrath Stadium.
Only women runners participate in the Pinkathon initiated by Bollywood actor and super model Milind Soman. Leisure Port are the franchise holder for Pinkathon in Nepal.
The one-day event is organised to spread awareness of breast cancer. Soman had said that the objective of the event was to encourage women to adopt health and fitness in their daily lifestyles through running. Pinkathon is currently held in eight different cities of India. Saturday also saw the women’s 5km and 3km rallies won by Deepa Neupane and Chandana Gurung respectively.
