The government has introduced voluntary retirement scheme trageting those public servants who do not wish to work for local governments under the federal set-up. As part of the scheme, the Ministry of General Administration has offered a golden handshake deal worth seven years of salary to the employees choosing voluntary retirement.
In Makwanpur, 101 civil servants, including four under secretaries and eight officer level employees, have registered their names at the District Administration Office (DAO) for voluntary retirement scheme so far.
The number of employees choosing the scheme is likely to go up with still a week remaining for the registration to close, said officer Sahadev Acharya at the DAO.
In Nuwakot, 64 government employees have applied for voluntary retirement.
Most of the employees who have chosen voluntary retirement in Makwanpur and Nuwakot are postal workers.
