Police arrest gang of scooter thieves in Kathmandu

A special team mobilised by the MPCD on Thursday evening nabbed Roshan Joshi, 20, of Maruhiti in Kathmandu Municipality-19; Dipak Lama, 18, of Dhulikhel-5, Kavre; and Susan Ale Magar, 18, of Sunkoshi Rural Municipality, Sindhuli.
Police also recovered three stolen scooters—Ba 53 Pa 3391, Ga 5 Pa 1917 and Ba 53 pa 3625—from the trio.
According to Superintendent of Police Narendra Prasad Upreti, the three men were arrested in their bid to flee after stealing a scooter from the Pachali Mandir premises.
“We’ve been receiving information about such theft from different parts of the city of late. Following the tip-off, we had deployed a special team, which succeeded in capturing them,” said SP Upreti.
The accused were found stealing scooters using duplicate keys.
The group had stolen one (Ga 5 Pa 1917) belonging to Muna Shrestha from the
parking area in Basantapur.
Following a spike in incidents of theft of two-wheelers in the city, the MPCD has formed a special team to discourage such activities, according to SP Upreti.
