The victim, a grade 12 student, lives in the remote Tharu settlement.
A group of seven people including shaman Ram Bahadur Chaudhary tied both hands of the victim and thrashed her. The victim sustained injuries on her chest, head, legs, neck and other body parts.
“All villagers remained mute spectators when the incident happened. No one tried to stop such merciless thrashing,” said victim’s father Jokhan Chaudhary. “Initially, police did not give priority to our complaint,” said victim’s mother Phulkeshari Chaudhary.
The victim is receiving treatment at Seti Zonal Hospital. “They took me to the house of local Kismati Chaudhary started to beat me all over my body. They forced me to accept me that I am a witch,” said victim.
“Though the Area Police Office in Sukhad arrested shaman Ram Bahadur, he was released in the presence of Ghodaghodi Mayor Mamata Prasad Chaudhary, ward Chairman Prem Rokaya and victim’s father Jokhan Chaudhary,” said Sub Inspector Dinesh Bista.
“I have not been informed about the incident,” said Mayor Mamata Prasad Chaudhary. The District Administration Office said police are investigating the incident.
