Visiting Bangladeshi Minister for Civil Aviation and Tourism AKM Sahajan Kamal paid a courtesy call on Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Wednesday.
In a meeting held at Baluwatar, PM Oli said Monday’s accident of US Bangla aircraft was saddening and a commission was formed to investigate the incident.
According to PM’s personal secretary Chetan Adhikari, PM Oli expressed deep condolence and sympathy to the Prime Minister and the people of Bangladesh and the bereaved family over the demise of Bangaldeshi nationals in the aircraft accident. Minister Kamal had appreciated Nepal’s prompt action in the relief and treatment of those injured in the crash.
Minister Kamal informed that Bangladeshi PM Sheikh Hasina extended thanks to Nepal’s Prime Minster Oli for the initiative taken by the Nepal government in the rescue operations immediately after the accident.
The visiting Bangladeshi minister had earlier met Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa to discuss about the fatal crash that took place at Tribhuvan International Airport (TIA).
During the meeting held at the Home Minster’s office, Singha Durbar, Minister Thapa extended his profound sorrow over the loss of valuable lives in the crash involving the Bangladeshi airliner coming from Dhaka carrying 71 people including crew members.
Thapa apprised the Bangladeshi minister, who is leading a high-level delegation to take updates on the deadly crash, that the government had already formed a probe committee to look into the matter.
Process of identifying bodies of the Bangladeshi nationals killed in the crash and their post-mortem examinations are underway and arrangements are in place to send the mortal remains back to home as soon as possible once such works get over, according to the Home Minister.
Minister Kamal had also visited 10 injured Bangladeshi nationals at Kathmandu Medical College, Norvic International Hospital and Om Hospital where they are receiving treatment.
“The family of one injured from Bangladesh who is receiving treatment at Om Hospital wants to take the patient to Singapore for further treatment and orthopaedicians and medical specialists for burn injuries from Bangladesh wish to visit Nepal to assist treatment in those injured in the crash,” the Bangladeshi minister informed Minister Thapa, seeking his help build an atmosphere towards this end.
In response, the Home Minister said that Nepal is ready to facilitate the process if it was proceeded through the Bangladeshi Embassy in Kathmandu.
The two ministers agreed on facilitating the investigations into the incident from both sides and take elaborative measures in order to avoid such incident in the future.
