Nangsal battled to a 21-19, 19-21, 21-19 win over her clubmate Rasila Maharjan in the final. Dipesh Dhami of Nepal Armed Police Force (APF) Club set the men’s singles title showdown with Armyman Ratnajit Tamang. Dhami beat Nabin Shrestha of TAC 21-16, 21-16 and Ratnajit dispatched Prince Dahal of Darchula 21-17, 21-10 in the semi-finals.
Making it to the women’s doubles final were the APF pair of Puja Shrestha and Sikshya Shrestha along with Nangsal and Anumaya Rai of TAC. Puja and Sikhshya eased to a 21-11, 21-19 win over Rasila Maharjan and Amita Giri of TAC while Nangsal and Anumaya overcame Jessica Gurung and Sunaina Mukhiya of Jhapa 21-14, 11-21, 21-18 in the last four clashes.
The APF pairs of Sudeep Sedhai-Sajan Krishna Tamrakar and Dipesh-Bijit Thapa Magar, Ratnajit-Nabin of TAC and Deepak Bohara-Jivan Acharya of Nepal Police Club (NPC) advanced to the men’s doubles semi-finals. Sudeep-Sajan beat Rukesh Maharjan-Jivan Acharya of TAC 21-17, 22-24, 21-17, Dipesh-Bijit saw off Riyaj Ansari-Irfan Ansari of Banke 21-17, 21-11, Ratnajit-Nabin defeated Gautam Kathayat-Bishal Pradhan 21-19, 21-10, and Deepak-Jivan rallied to a 9-21, 21-14, 25-23 win over Suraj Maharjan-Prafulla Maharjan of TAC in the quarter-finals.
Prafulla Maharjan of TAC and Prince Dahal of Darchula set the boys’ U-17 singles title clash. Prafulla saw off Devraj Rana of Kailali 21-11, 21-10 and Dahal got the better of Rijen Maharjan of TAC 21-4, 21-17 in the last-four clash.
Lawn Tennis
Jitendra Pariyar of Lalitpur and Pranab Khanal of TAC advanced to the men’s singles final of the 10th Sahabir Memorial Lawn Tennis Championship on Wednesday. Pariyar eased past Santosh Khatri of Lalitpur 6-2, 6-3 and Khanal battled to a 6-0, 4-6, 7-5 win over Pradeep Khadka of Pokhara. In the men’s doubles semi-finals, the pair of Khatri and Pariyar beat Man Bahadur Katuwal and Jivan Ghimire 6-0, 6-1 while Armyman Pranab and NPC’s Kamal Bhandari teamed up to beat Pradeep Khadka and Anil Shahi of Pokhara 6-3, 6-1.
Representing NPC, Rana sisters Mayanka and Mahika set up the women’s singles championship showdown after winning the semi-final matches late on Tuesday. Mayanka beat Ira Rawat of TAC 7-5, 6-4 and Mahika saw off Ganga Sharma of Pokhara 6-0, 6-2.
Women’s Volleyball
New Diamond Academy and NPC advanced to the semi-finals of the fifth National Women’s Volleyball Tournament on Wednesday. New Diamond brushed off Jawalakhel Volleyball Training Centre 25-1, 25-3, 25-10 and NPC beat Dhorpatan Sports Club 25-9, 25-3, 25-19 to join Tribhuvan Army Club and APF in the last-four.
