The Bageshwori Temple Management Committee in Nepalgunj, Banke, disclosed the valuables offered to the temple by devotees after 45 years.
Two safes containing gold and silver wares and other valuable objects were opened on Wednesday. Mayor of Nepalgunj Sub-metropolis Dhawal Shumsher Rana, who is also the chairman of the temple management committee, unlocked the safes that were kept at the District Land Revenue Office.
Gold jewelries weighing two tolas and silver items weighing 20.34 kg along with historic documents were recovered from the safes. Papers regarding the land donated to the temple were also found.
The temple management committee on Sunday decided to open the safes and make public their contents to keep the official record of the valuables offered at the temple.
Advocates Bal Bahadur Chand and Lok Bahadur Shah had filed a writ at the High Court demanding that the contents of the safes are made public.
The Nepalgunj bench of the High Court last year had ordered the temple to disclose the contents in the safes and take appropriate step to manage them.
The valuables found in the safe were too little as people expected that there were a huge quantity of gold and silver. Advocate Shah said that the valuables found in the safes were less that the record kept during its previous opening. Stating that some valuables were stolen, Shah demanded to investigate about missing valuable.
