Law students from six colleges, five from Nepal and one from the United States, are competing in the first ever US-Nepal International Moot Court Competition in the Capital.

The three-day event, organised by Fulbright Alumni Association Nepal with the support of the US Embassy, will see the students arguing over hypothetical case before judges in a court-like environment. Each college will have five participants. Their performance will be judged by retired judges and practicing lawyers.

The competitive even is expected to enhance the participants’ advocacy, legal research and writing skills, the organisers said. Moot court is a training process for law students and plays an important role in legal education and prepares and enhances the capacity of potential lawyers.

Pradhan Malla said at the inaugural session of the competition. The final competition will be held on Sunday after completing first round session and semifinals.US Ambassador Alaina B Teplitz said the competition will open new avenues for people to people connection and participation. “This collaborative effort provides knowledge-sharing opportunities between students, lawyers and judges between the two countries.”
