Girl, 17, raped inside microbus in Saptari

A 17-year-old girl has been raped by microbus driver and his helper in Saptari district on pretext of giving her a ride to Kathmandu.
The victim said the driver and his helper raped her in Sakhada on the night of March 13. The girl, a Jhapa native, who had asked for a lift in the microbus (Ba 5 Pa 3141) in Rajbiraj was taken to Sakhada near the Nepal-India border.
A police team patrolling the border area found the culprits raping the victim inside the vehicle around midnight, said SP Mukesh Kumar Singh. Police impounded the vehicle and held driver Baidyanath Das of Bhagwanpur-9, Siraha and his helper Khemraj Baise of Raptisonari-5, Banke for investigation.
The victim underwent a medical test at Rajbiraj-based Gajendranarayan Singh Sagarmatha Zonal Hospital in Rajbiraj. She has been kept in a safe house of Saptari District Police Office. SP Singh said they were trying to contact victim’s parents.
Nine incidents of rape have been reported in Saptari district over the past month.
