In between day and night
When the winter morning first opens its laden eyes, when the first light of day appears at the horizon, most of us are at the peak of our dreams, or sleepily turning off our alarm clocks. But a small segment of the city is already awake, preparing for the onslaught of the day. At 5 am, there is a chance to experience the in-between world. It is neither day nor night. The city is moving, but not bustling with life. Nor is it quiet like in the dead of night.

When the winter morning first opens its laden eyes, when the first light of day appears at the horizon, most of us are at the peak of our dreams, or sleepily turning off our alarm clocks. But a small segment of the city is already awake, preparing for the onslaught of the day. At 5 am, there is a chance to experience the in-between world. It is neither day nor night. The city is moving, but not bustling with life. Nor is it quiet like in the dead of night.
At the break of dawn, in one of the busiest corners of the Valley, the shops are open, but one does not have to haggle to get the attention of the shop keeper. And, for a brief period of time, one can find an empty micro, or not worry about getting hit while crossing the road. Walking the streets in the morning, the day seems as remote and distant as the land from our grandmother’s stories. But that is a drowsy thought which fades as soon as the lingering darkness fades to make way for the day to govern our lives.
