An unusual snowfall blanketed the Annapurna trekking region in Myagdi district. Mahare, Ghodepani/Poon Hill and Khopra, among other places, in the Annapurna Rural Municipality have been blanketed with snow on Thursday night.Locals say the Guranse Jungle, the biggest rhododendron forest in the world, saw a snowfall.

“The entire forest has been covered in snow. Visitors in the region have been elated seeing snow and rhododendron at the same time,” said Teksar Buddhaja, a tourism entrepreneur in Ghorepani. “The scene of blue sky after snowfall and snow on the rhododendron flowers is a sight to behold.”

As the period between March and May is considered the best season for trekking and mountaineering in Nepal, a large number of tourists have reached Ghandruk-Ghorepani area of the Annapurna trekking region.

The trek, which passes through a dense jungle, was covered by a variety of rhododendrons till Wednesday. But the jungle has been blanketed in a white sheet of snow after the snowfall on Thursday. According to the Annapurna Conversation Area Project, the forest is home to eight out of the 32 species of rhododendrons found in Nepal.
