Disabled persons call for inclusive info technology
A two-day seminar on “Accessible and Inclusive ICTs for Person with Disabilities” concluded in Kathmandu on Saturday.A two-day workshop on “Accessible and Inclusive ICTs for Person with Disabilities” concluded in Kathmandu on Saturday.
The event held in Kathmandu was attended by experts and other stakeholders from different countries, including Sri Lanka, India and Myanmar.
They were of the view that the technologies built with the participations of all stakeholders would only resolve the problems faced by the community.
Birendra Raj Pokhrel, former chairman of Nepal Federation of Disabled, informed participants about Nepal’s international commitment on inclusive and accessible information technology.
At the programme, Rohan Samarajiva, founding Chair of LIRNEasia, underscored that only the technology developed with participation of concerned stakeholders would be helpful in addressing the problems regarding access and inclusivity. He said that no form of disability should be treated as a problem in the age of information technology, giving the example of famous scientist Stephen Hawking.
Participants further added that new technologies must pay attention about the persons with disabilities. (PR)
