District Police Office, Dolakha, has intensified its drive to destroy illegally brewed alcohol and marijuana farms.District Police Office, Dolakha, has intensified its drive to destroy illegally brewed alcohol and marijuana farms.
Deputy Superintendent of Police (DSP) Rameshwor Karki said the crackdown was launched after their study found that more than 75 percent of the crimes in the district were caused due to consumption of alcohol and marijuana.
In June last year, a woman suffered critical burn injuries when her inebriated husband poured boiling oil on her at Baityashwor Rural Municipality. The perpetrator later admitted to police that he had committed the crime under the influence of alcohol.
The district police, with the help of the locals, destroyed 48,000 litres of locally brewed alcohol and more than 9,000 marijuana plants in past eight months.
The ongoing campaign has been supported by the victims of domestic violence, mothers’ groups and Women Violence Control Network.
In some places, according to police, mothers and women groups have taken initiatives on their own to destroy alcohol and marijuana.
DSP Karki claimed that the campaign has resulted in a marked decline in crimes. Even the number of road accidents have gone down, he added.
