Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Lal Babu Pandit said on Wednesday that the government would not let capable government staffers to retire under the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS).Minister for Federal Affairs and General Administration Lal Babu Pandit said on Wednesday that the government would not let capable government staffers to retire under the Voluntary Retirement Scheme (VRS).
A total of 9,656 government employees, including five secretaries and 38 joint
secretaries, have applied for VRS introduced by the previous Sher Bahadur Deuba-led government.
However, Minister Pandit said here that the government has the final say on whether to implement the VRS.
“We have not scrapped the VRS, but everyone should understand there is a challenge of delivering services to the people in an easier way through the provincial and local governments,” he said, talking to reporters. “We will deploy our staffers there and they must go to the offices deployed by the government.”
As per the Employees Adjustment Act, those participating in the VRS are entitled to get pension for seven years collectively and additional pensions beyond seven years as per the law. The government will have to make payment of over Rs30 billion for the retiring employees, according to the Finance Ministry.
