Traffic police officer and two others held in student death

Preliminary investigation into the suspicious death of a student appearing in Secondary Education Examination (SEE) in Surkhet reveals the complicity of a traffic police officer.
Police arrested three persons including traffic police officer Hari Koirala, deployed at Babiyachaur. The security personnel earlier arrested Laxmi Prasad Bastola and
his brother Kum Prasad of Panchapuri Municipality-8 for their alleged role in the crime.
Residents found 18-year-old Gorikala Rokaya, a permanent resident of Panchapuri-3, dead in her rented room in Babiyachaur on Tuesday. The victim, a student at Palainte-based Surya Prakash Secondary School, was staying in Babiyachaur to take her SEE exams. She sustained injuries in back part of her head, waist and legs.
According to the police, Bastola said in his statement that traffic police officer Koirala had asked him to ‘fix a meeting’ with the girl for relations which he did. “Gorikala and Koirala then went nearby forest in the afternoon. We three ate snacks together after they returned. While Gorikala and I were returning on my motorcycle she fell and injured,” police quoted Laxmi as saying.
After the incident, Laxmi dropped the girl to her rented room instated of taking her to hospital. The girl breathed her last at around 1am on Tuesday, said police.
The incident became known after the neighbours informed the police, as her room’s door was not opened until late in the morning.
Police recovered bloodstained clothes from the victim’s room. Postmortem report will reveal the cause of the death, said a police officer. The victim’s family received body after carrying out postmortem in Mid-Western Regional Hospital in Surkhet.
Meanwhile, the victim’s father lodged a complaint at the police on Wednesday, demanding strong action against the accused.
