Minister for Home Affairs Ram Bahadur Thapa has called for support from all sectors for disaster management.
Speaking at the meeting of the Executive Committee related to Disaster Risk Reduction and Management on Thursday, Thapa said managing disaster requires joint effort. The initiatives taken by the government alone are not enough, he added.
He also directed the bodies concerned to come up with programmes to ensure community participation in disaster management.
Minister for Federal Affairs and Local Development Lal Babu Pandit pointed out the need for a programme to involve the country’s youth in disaster management.
The first Executive Committee meeting also decided to ask the centre, the province, district and local levels to prepare and implement monsoon preparedness response plan to reduce the loss of lives and properties.
The other decisions taken by the meeting include changing the names of Central Natural Disaster Relief Fund to National Disaster Management Fund and of District Natural Disaster Relief Fund to District Disaster Management Fund; setting up Province Management Fund in all provinces to replace Regional Natural Disaster Relief Fund; and submitting the draft of the Disaster Risk Reduction National Policy, 2074, and the Disaster Risk Reduction National Strategic Action Plan, 2017-30 to the government for approval.
