Three separate incidents of fire gutted properties valued around Rs 3 million in Saptari and Sunsari districts on Friday night and Saturday morning respectively.
Fire that started in a cowshed belonging to Bal Govinda Yadav, a resident of Jolhari of Rajbiraj municipality ward no 9, also destroyed the residential building nearby.
The fire destroyed two bundles of straw, paddies and two quintals of black mustard seeds and a pumping set, police said. Fire destroyed properties worth Rs 200,000, officials estimate. In another incident, fire gutted properties valued around Rs 300,000 in Rampura Malhaniya, Hanumannagar Kankalini Municipality-14.
The fire started from a paddy thresher belonging to resident Sonai Mahji and gutted 14 quintals of paddy, two quintals of black mustard seeds and furniture, according to Area Police Office Hanumannagar.
Firefighters from Rajbiraj, police personnel and local residents doused the blaze in a collective effort.
In Itahari this morning, fire destroyed goods and property worth more than Rs 2.5 million at Saraswati Sheller Mill in Khanar, Itahari Sub-metropolitan City, Sunsari district. A short circuit in the mill’s electric transformer triggered the fire. It gutted raw materials and the machinery at the mill, Itahari Area Police Office said.
Firefighters from Itahari and Inaruwa municipalities rushed to the site and doused the fire.
