Of these traffic officers issued 255 tickets for drink-driving, 17 to riders without helmets, 40 for using pressure horns, 97 for over speeding, and the remaining for lane violations and not having vehicle documents.
According to Metropolitan Traffic Police Division (MTPD), during the check no fatal accident was reported on Friday and Saturday.
To check motorists driving after drinking alcohol and traffic rule violations, the department deployed 370 traffic officers in 17 different locations in Kathmandu, Lalitpur and Bhaktapur districts in the valley.
MTPD Deputy Spokesperson and DSP Mukunda Marasini said, “Traffic police have taken stringent action to curb traffic related accidents. It’s because of our strict surveillance; we were able to reduce the road related accident in the valley during festivals.”
Those booked for lane violators have to pay Rs 500 fine and attend one-hour traffic class, while the ticket for drink-driving is Rs 1,000 and class.
Earlier on March, police had issued tickets to 566 motorcyclists for violating traffic rules during Holi in Kathmandu, Bhaktapur and Lalitpur district inside the valley.
