Former President Ram Baran Yadav is set to hand over the award to Paudel at a function on April 24, which coincides with Loktantra Diwas and the birth anniversary of Barbara Adams.
The award carries a purse of Rs 100,001.
A total of 45 applications were received by March 31, 2018 after the foundation called for submissions of investigative reports published, aired or broadcast in 2017, the Barbara Adams Foundation said in a statement on Wednesday. “The Judge Committee sat through three rounds of selection process to pick Paudel’s report on the series of corruptions and irregularities by the leadership of the Nepal Oil Corporation (NOC) as the winning report,” it reads.
The issues raised by the reports, depth of their investigations, and scale and reach of the impact they made in 2017 were the core criteria used by selection committee to pick the winner, the foundation stated in the statement.
A journalist and writer, Adams instituted the Barbara Adams Investigative Journalism Award on May 16, 2013,with the endowment fund of $10,000 to promote investigative journalism, and through it, good governance and democratic norms and values.
Born in New York City in 1931, Adams came to Nepal in 1961, and lived here until her death on April 22, 2016, two days short of her 85th birthday.
