Mixed bag for Nepal

The boys’ team of the hosts registered comfortable wins in all three matches over Bhutan while the girls’ suffered a 3-0 defeat against India. In the boys’ singles, Nepal’s Aki Zuben Rawat inflicted a double bagel on Tashi Nima Tshering while Aarav Samrat Hada eased past Sherab Gyeltshen 6-0, 6-1. In the doubles, Hada and Pranav Manandhar pulled off a comfortable 6-0, 6-0 win over Tshering and Jigme Pema Namgay.
In the girls’ singles, Nepal’s Azaa Regmi lost 6-2, 6-2 to Anjali Rathi before Subhangee Laxmi Shah went down 6-0, 6-1 to Shruti Ahlawat. In the doubles, Shah and Aisha Dolkar Gurung’s pair succumbed to a 6-2, 6-1 defeat against the pair of Rathi and Durganshi.
The other boys’ team event saw Pakistan beat Sri Lanka 3-0. Muhammad Huzaifa Khan beat Sri Lanka’s Lisal Goonathilake 6-3, 6-4 and Hamid Israr saw off Vichithya Nilaweera 6-1, 6-4 in the singles event. In the doubles, Israr and Bilal Asim rallied from the first set deficit to beat Goonathilake and Vichitya’s pair 3-6, 6-0 (0-10).
In another girls’ team event Sri Lanka registered a 3-0 win over Bhutan. Ruvi Lewkebandara thumped Karma Yuden Dorji 6-0, 6-1 and Hasali Gajaba thrashed Hasali Gajaba Tenzin Wangsel Lhaden 6-0, 6-0 in the singles. The doubles event saw Hasali and Nelini Jayasuriya inflict a double bagel on Dorji and Lhaden.
The boys’ event is participated by five teams including Nepal, India, Sri Lanka, Bhutan and Pakistan. Pakistan have opted out of the girls’ event. The event will be first played in the round robin format and top four teams will make to the semi-finals. The finalists in both boys’ and girls’ categories will qualify for the Asian event to be held in Kazakhstan in November.
