Simple life

Apr 25, 2018-I believe life is short. Many people deny destiny in the 21st century. Nevertheless, the truth remains the same. We are in this world for a certain time and when our time comes, we have to leave. This is the bitter reality of life. Life is like a flower: it blooms and it dies.

The other day, I was listening to Steve Jobs’ last inspirational words. I had always imagined Steve Jobs to be very stubborn with a very strong personality. But in his last words, he asked people to enjoy life and spend more time with family. He is one of the most important persons of our century. Yet, at the end of his life he realised that material things, the riches of the world, and fame don’t matter at all. All that matters is how meaningful your life has been. Many doctors died in an airplane accident in Nepal recently. This further shows that death comes to all and does not discriminate.

If we take some time to think about life, we can realise the fact that material things can merely make us happy. These are just momentary pleasures. Furthermore, those that have been exposed to fame would tell you that being famous would not make you absolutely happy. Ask rich people, they will tell you that wealth is not the source of happiness. The greatest pleasure lies in helping human beings and being good. Believe me or not, the ultimate pleasure lies in giving, rather than taking.

My motto in life is to be a happy person and I believe I am not the only one to have that wish. I believe the more you want, the more you become stressed and would not be able to enjoy little things in life. Like Robert Frost says, “What is this life full of care, there is no time to stand and stare.” We, indeed have very little time to look around and enjoy the small things. We work for months to have a nice holiday for a week. We become so busy in life that we don’t have time for family; divorce rates are going up and the kids do not get to spend time with parents. And material things like the television and the internet have become things to comfort us rather than actual human beings. If we only had been satisfied, we would not have had this situation.

I am not saying that it isn’t important to have a goal in life. Each person should have goals and strive to fulfil their dreams. But they should also balance between working for their goals and to spend time with other

people. May I not have enmity with anyone. May I be forgiving and understanding. Above all, may I be good human being. That’s my wish and that is my goal in life.
