In a lopsided match at the Kohalpur cricket ground, Anil Kharel and skipper Sandeep Sunar shared five wickets to restrict Gorillas for 89 runs 19.1 overs. Sunar then returned to smash 46 off 24 balls as Gorkhas reached the target in just eight overs for the loss of two wickets.
The title triumph also handed Gorkhas a cash purse of Rs 111, 000 while Gorillas got Rs 60,000. Bashir Ahmed of Lumbini Yatris was named the player-of-the-series, Gorillas skipper Saurav Khanal the best batsman and Shahid Ansari of Gorkhas the best bowler.
The expectations of a nail-biting final took no time to fizzle out after Gorillas were reduced to 33-8 at one stage. Nandan Yadav (10) was the only batsman among the top eight batsmen to score in double digits. Sher Oli (14) and Roshan Shah then pushed the team close to triple figures with a 35-run partnership for the ninth wicket.
Shah scored 35 off 24 balls with four fours and a six. Left arm spinner Kharel took 3-16 and man-of-the-match Sunar snared two. Bishnu Katariya, Hari Chhetri, Shahid Ansari and Sagar Dhakal also took one scalp apiece.
Sunar led a strong reply along with his opening partner Manoj Sunar with a 70-run stand for the first wicket. Sandeep struck eight fours and two sixes, while Manoj chipped in 24 from 19 with five hits to the fence. Ramesh Singh and Aakash Thapa took a wicket each for Gorillas.
