The Nepal Geological Society has advised the government for carrying out a geological study on the surface and build quake-resistant infrastructure to minimise the impact from quakes.
Society’s Chairman Kabi Poudel in a statement on Wednesday noted that Gorkha and Dolakha, among other areas, face earthquake risk, citing the studies held after the earthquakes in 2015.
Structures built without fact-based geotechnical study cannot be trusted, says the statement.
Insisting that the government fulfil its responsibility of disseminating the factual information on quake to minimise risk, the society has urged the authorities concerned to accord high priority to conduct study and research of geological conditions.
The society also demanded the government take steps to form a body and organisational structure for such research and study to minimise the impact from earthquakes.
