According to a party source, the Maoist supremo has said he would meeti with CPN-UML Chairman and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli on Thursday and announce a fresh unification date on Saturday.
Briefing a meeting of the party’s Central Secretariat on the development, Dahal said the issues related to party’s structure and statute, are being discussed, said Maoist Centre Spokesperson Pampha Bhusal.
During the meeting, Dahal said the two parties had reached an understanding to acknowledge People’s War. Sun, the election symbol of the UML, is likely to continue after the parties merge. A debate had been raging within the two parties over the issue. “The unification process will conclude on the basis of equal share,” Bhusal quoted Dahal as saying. She added that the party chief told the meeting that there is “no turning back from the unification process”.
The ratio of power-sharing was another contentious issue between the two left parties, with the Maoists claiming equal share and UML leaders pressing for a 70:30 division in the leadership, party organisation and other key positions.
