May 4, 2018-

Senior orthopaedic surgeon at Tribhuvan University Teaching Hospital (TUTH) Dr Govinda KC has demanded that the Health Profession Education (HPE) Act be endorsed immediately asper the ordinance tabled at the Federal Parliament.

He has warned of launching another round of protest, claiming that personal interests of various political parties and their leaders have led to the obstruction in the formulation of the Act.

Dr KC made public a four-point demand at a press meet held at TUTH in Maharajgunj, Kathmandu, on Thursday.

He expressed  hope that the Act would be endorsed by the upcoming session of the Federal Parliament.

Besides endorsement of the HPE Act, Dr KC  has demanded that the government roll back its decision to declare Maitighar Mandala as a protest exclusion  zone.

He has also pointed out that action must be taken, as per the recommendations made by the Judicial Inquiry Council report, against the accused Tribhuvan University (TU) officials who tried to severely limit the autonomy of the Institute of Medicine (IoM). He has said that the rights taken away by the TU must  be given back to the IoM.

Dr KC has also demanded that action be taken against former Chief Justice Gopal Prasad Parajuli after conducting a thorough investigation.

He has demanded that political meddling in the appointment of new Chief Justice must stop immediately.
