Heavy rains and hailstones battered the district of Bajhang on Wednesday night, triggering flash floods and landslides.
Floods and landslides damaged at least 30 homes and killed more than 40 domesticated animals in different parts of the district.
Chabis Pathibhara, Thalara, Bithad Chir, Khaptad Chhinna, Masta, Talkot, Jay Prithvi and Bungalareas were hit hard.
Ganga Dutt Awasthi, the acting chief of District Agriculture Development Office, said floods and landslides also destroyed a large area of ready-to-harvest winter crops, fruit orchards and vegetable patches .
According to the initial estimate of the office, floods and landslides have destroyed around 2,000 ropanis (roughly 52 acres) of farmland in Bajhang.
Awasthi said the estimate was based on fragmented reports received from different parts of the district and that the real picture of the devastation was yet to arrive.
The local authorities started assessing the damage from Thursday.
Landslide buries jeep killing three people in Subeda
Three people were killed when a landslide buried a passenger jeep at Subeda area in Bajhang district on Wednesday night.
Rescue workers recovered their bodies some 100 metres down the road on Thursday. Police listed the names of deceased as Ramesh Chand, Amar Raj Ban and Asu Oda. They were found trapped inside the vehicle.
The bodies were sent to the Bajhang District Hospital for post-mortem.
The jeep (Se 1 Ja 820) was travelling to Chainpur, the district headquarters, from Jay Prithvi Municipality when it was swept away by the landslide. (PR)
