A team from the Metropolitan Police Crime Division (MPCD) on Saturday arrested five office bearers of the Federation of Nepalese National Transport Entrepreneurs, the umbrella organisation of transport committees, leading the agitation against the recent decision to ban transport committees or associations.
According to SSP Dhiraj Pratap Shah of the MPCD, FNNTE President Yogendraman Karma-charya was among those arrested on Saturday evening for obstructing the essential public transport service. FNNTE officials Vijay Swar, Basant Bhandari, Dharma Dhimal and Kiran Khadka were also caught. The government started arresting representatives of various transport committees and associations on Friday.
Home Minister Ram Bahadur Thapa on Friday directed the District Administration Offices to arrest all those refusing to run their vehicles. In a nationwide crackdown, police arrested 93 individuals including FNNTE General Secretary Saroj Sitaula on the first day. (PR)
