Tennis Championships: Pariyar, Koirala claim titles

In the final match against Kamal Bhandari at the National Sports Council tennis court, Pariyar took the first set 6-3 but the latter hit back taking the second one 6-3. Pariyar was trailing 3-0 in the decider but fought back hard to win 6-3. It was third title for Pariyar having won the second and third editions. Samrakshyan Bhushan Bajracharya has also won the title twice.
Prerana Koilrala claimed the women’s singles final after defending champion Ira Rawat retired from the match due to injury. Koirala had won the first set 6-3 and was leading 3-0 in the second set before Rawat retired. The women’s singles was included in the tournament from the third edition with Mayanka Rana win the first two finals.
The winners and runners-up in both categories got Rs 50,000 and Rs 25,000 respectively. Cash prizes were also kept for up to the quarter-finalists in men’s and semi-finalists in women’s sections.
A total of 135 players had participated in the tournament. Pariyar on Friday had teamed up with Santosh Khatri to win the men’s doubles and Shree Ram Magar and Rawat had won the mixed doubles final on Thursday.
In the veteran events, Bhandari (above-35 yrs), Krishna Raj Ghale (above-45 yrs), Dhruba Gurung (above-55 yrs) and Gyanendra Man Tamrakar (above-65 yrs) won the singles titles.
