TU senate meeting put off
May 7, 2018-
The Tribhuvan University senate meeting scheduled for Sunday was postponed until further notice due to health issue of TU Chancellor and Prime Minister KP Sharma Oli.
Vice Chancellor Prof Dr Tirtha Khaniya said a TU delegation had reached Prime Minister’s residence on Saturday to remind him about the meeting but could not meet him because he was indisposed.
Education Minister Girirajmani Pokharel on behalf of Prime Minister Oli had asked the TU delegation to put off the meeting.Khaniya said the new date for the meeting shall be fixed after discussions with the prime minister and the education minister. Amendment and repeal of old rules, demands of TU teachers, employees and students, and public procurement provisions were the meeting’s agenda set by the TU pre-senate meeting held on Saturday. TU Rector Sudha Tripathi also gave prime minister’s illness as the reason behind the meeting’s postponement.
Agenda obscure, says PM’s press advisor Aryal
Prime Minister Secretariat has presented a different reason behind the meeting’s deferral. It has refuted the reports that the TU Senate was postponed due to the PM’s health condition. The prime minister’s press advisor, Kundan Aryal, said, “There is nothing wrong with the prime minister. He had attended two programmes on Saturday and he is busy in other programmes since this morning. He could not attend the TU senate meeting because the agenda seemed unclear.” Meanwhile, part-time teachers working at various TU constituent colleges have started a sit-in protest at the TU campus in Kirtipur, demanding permanent status.
