Bhairab Bahadur Singh, Nar Bahadur Dhami and Damodar Bhandari on Tuesday registered an amendment to the Lower House Regulation Drafting Committee’s decision of not suspending MPs serving judicial custody for criminal offences that could put them in jail for three years or more.
The House of Representatives (HoR) has taken up for discussion the draft regulation passed by the committee on Saturday.The decision of not suspending tainted MPs followed strong reservations by opposition parties including Nepali Congress.
The Lower House had set Tuesday as the deadline to submit the amendments to the draft regulation. The Majdoor Kisan Party had registered its note-of-dissent on the provision on Saturday.Meanwhile, the Nepali Congress MPs including Minendra Rijal registered an amendment that seeks to decrease the number of House Committees from 10 to seven.The main opposition party vehemently objected the ruling parties plan to increase the number of committees to 10. Nepali Congress insisted on limiting them to seven as recommended by the Parliament Secretariat.
