Printmaking is a process of making artworks by printing, generally done on a piece of paper. Print media are an old and prevalent form of artwork. Printmaking was popular even among Renaissance artists and remains in wide usage among contemporary artists around the world. Today, there exists a multitude of printmaking techniques, some dated and others entirely modern. Agrawal’s works are sometimes called “Giclee” prints which are essentially digital prints made on inkjet printers. Many of Agrawal’s prints feature Nepali cultural heritage sites like the Patan and Bhaktapur Durbar Squares and are based on pictures taken by the artist himself when he came to Nepal as an exhibitor for the first time, five years ago. His artworks also feature ladders and windows as prominent motifs.
Agrawal was invited to exhibit in Nepal by the Nepal Academy of Fine Arts and the exhibition which began Monday has been dedicated to the memory of the deceased son of Academy chancellor, Ragini Upadhyaya. The exhibition, which features artworks worth Rs 100,000 each, will run till Saturday.
