Seminar on Marxist thought begins tomorrow
An international seminar is set to be organised in Kathmandu to mark bicentenary of Karl Marx’s birthday.An international seminar is set to be organised in Kathmandu to mark bicentenary of Karl Marx’s birthday. According to the seminar organising committee, representatives of 15 communist, socialist and workers’ parties from 11 countries will join the event on May 30-31.
The seminar to be held in Kathmandu will discuss the contribution of Marx, a German philosopher and revolutionary socialist. Prime Minister and Nepal Communist Party Co-chair KP Sharma Oli will present a paper on ‘Nepal’s communist movement and revolution process’. NCP Co-chair Pushpa Kamal Dahal will present another paper on Marxism and Socialism.
According to Madhav Kumar Nepal, senior NCP leader and coordinator of the organising committee, representatives from parties like Socialist Alliance (Australia), Communist Party of Bangladesh, Revolutionary Workers Party of Bangladesh, Socialist Party of Bangladesh, Communist Party of China, Marxist-Leninist Party of Germany, Communist Party of India, Communist Party of India (ML) Liberation, Japanese Communist Party, Workers’ Party of Korea, Lao People’s Revolutionary Party, Communist Party of Russian Federation, Communist Party of Sri Lanka, JVP Sri Lanka and Communist Party of Vietnam will attend the event.
“There is popular misconception on socialism. Hence, the need for serious deliberation,” Nepal explained the rationale behind the event. The concept of socialism is more pertinent to the context of Nepal where the constitution defines the state as ‘socialism-oriented’, he said.
NCP submits more documents to EC
The Nepal Communist Party on Monday submitted additional documents, including signatures of its Central Committee members, to the Election Commission.
A team led by NCP members Subas Nembang and Dev Gurung handed the papers to the EC. The force, established after merger between two communist parties, started the registration process on May 17.
“Additional resources will be provided as required,” Gurung said, adding that the party’s regulations would be submitted to the EC soon. (PR)
