Making movie posters with Swapnil
The Nepali movie industry is growing by the day and not without being aesthetic. The Nepali movie industry is growing by the day and not without being aesthetic. With an audience that is quick to judge a film by its posters, in the film industry, publicity is won in a very competitive market. Tapping into the young designers’ interest in the field, Swapnil Acaharya, a motion picture publicity designer, is facilitating a two-day design workshop called ‘Let’s design a movie poster’ for which the applications have opened. Acharya’s popular works include posters for movies such as Uma, Kabbadi, Loot, Resham Filili, and Soongava, among others.
Slated to take place in June, the workshop is being hosted by Sattya Media Arts Collective in their premises in Jawalakhel. Movie Poster making, the organisers say, is a “multi-million-dollar industry in Hollywood and is an intrinsic, preliminary portion of a movie rather than just a ‘cliched marketing tool’.”
The first day of the workshop will carry out a conceptual introduction to movie poster making as a form of art and will shed light on its national and global scenario. The second day will encourage participants to design and come up with movie posters which will be exhibited on the same day at the same location.
Ticketed at Rs 500 per head, the applicants are required to fill up an application form available in the event page on Facebook. With limited seats, only 15 applicants will make the cut to collaborate with and learn from the much-sought after designer.
The programme will take place on June 10 and 17, from 9 am to 11 am.
