Blending poetry and theatre

The first edition of Kavyankur, a literary event organised jointly by Lun Lunkaran Das Ganga Devi Chaudhary Sahitya Kala Mandir and M Art Theatre, featured poet Ashmita Mali Manandhar. The poetry recital took place at Rastriya Nachghar in Jamal, Kathmandu and also featured live theatrical performance.
Beginning with her English poem Aama, which was dedicated to her mother, poet Manandhar went on to perform several other poems such as Sampati, Dhaniya ko Achar, Khutruke, In a Prison, Rahar, Yatra, Chasing Sunset, and Tyo Kunai Kunako Kotha, among others. Simultaneously, various theatre actors such as Birendra Hamal, Shankar Pokhrel, Gita Rai, Omprakash Baniya and Gita Thapa took the stage and acted out the poems that were being recited. While Sapana Singh Silwal had choreographed the whole play, Shabnam Shilwal, Sabin Bhattarai, Birendra Hamal, and Ashim Gurung directed the acts.
