“Micro Galleries and Kaalo.101 are looking for Nepal-based practicing artists to participate alongside a team of highly talented international artists in a free public art installation festival,” reads a note issued by the organisers. “We are looking for artists at all stages of their practice: Emerging, establishing, exploring, and even those who consider themselves lost!”
Micro Galleries is an up-and-coming group of art enthusiasts interested in “reclaiming disused and forgotten spaces in [the] community… [and to] take over the streets and create change...for a micro moment.”
Kaalo.101 aims to provide a space for aspiring local artists who are struggling to find spaces to exhibit their works. Kaalo also collects and archives contemporary and budding Nepali art with critical research on each piece and each artist, giving artists the opportunity to express and address their experiences to a wider public.
The festival, titled Tip-toe-ing Into Kathmandu, will entail two rounds—the Live Weekend and Micro Residency. Among the international artists partaking at the fest are Brian Luque-Marcos (Spain), Caitlin Taguibao (Canada), Chuck Stalin (USA), Condro Priyoaji (Indonesia), and Ekim (Austria). The Nepali artists participating at the fest will be announced in July.
As planned, the festival is slated to start on November 23 and will continue till December 7.
