With deadline for receiving second tranche of housing grant ending by mid-July, there has been rise in the number of households taking such grant, the National Reconstruction Authority (NRA) said in a statement.
NRA disburses the second tranche of the grant to eligible families after the authority’s engineers confirm the rebuilding of houses meets the stipulated standards.
According to NRA, 435,400 families are eligible to receive the second installment of housing grant of Rs150,000.
NRA Joint Spokesperson Manohar Ghimire said setting the deadline to receive grants, coordination with local representatives and availability of technical manpower at the local level spurred many families to obtain the second installment of the grant.
Among the 14 districts hit hardest by the earthquake, Sindhupalchowk tops the list of beneficiaries of the second installment.
So far, 68,311 families in Sindhupalchowk have received the second installment.
The NRA has said 174,208 families are eligible for the third installment of housing grant; of these 137,731 families have already received the grant.
As of June 7, 162,189 private homes have been rebuilt while 481,004 are under reconstruction stage.
The NRA has said there’s an increase in the number of families seeking the third tranche of grant. Of the 174,208 authorised beneficiaries of the third tranche, 137,731 have already received the amount.
Following the earthquake, the government decided to provide Rs200,000 per household as private housing rebuilding aid. It later increased it to Rs300,000 to be distributed in three installments of Rs 50,000, Rs 150,000 and Rs 100,000.
