NC Whip Upendra Kushwaha obstructed the assembly meeting to press the provincial government to make public the details of expenditures in programmes organised to welcome Modi to the cultural city.
He said the provincial executive had failed to make public details of the expenses more than a month after the Indian PM visited the birthplace of Sita.
Speaker Saroj Kumar Yadav deferred the assembly meeting by 15 minutes after NC lawmakers obstructed it. Kushwaha warned of continued disruption of the assembly unless the government committed to publicising the expenditure details.
The Congress party has pointed to “financial irregularities” as the Nepali side made preparations for Modi’s visit.
The session resumed after Speaker Yadav held talks with the government.
The NC agreed to resume the meeting after Minister for Internal Affairs and Law Gyanendra Yadav promised to submit the expenditure details to the state assembly. Yadav said he would submit the details to the concerned committee to be formed in the assembly.
Deliberations over the policies and programmes of the provincial government tabled on Wednesday began when the meeting resumed. Five lawmakers have registered proposals to amend the document.
