The directive was issued in view of monsoon season.
Issuing a notice on Thursday, the Central Regional Directorate (CRD), under the Department of Roads (DoR), put a halt to road dig-ups until September 16. It also said that non-compliance would be punished under the Public Road Act 1974.
With the directive, which came into force on Friday, digging of roads for sewage repair, installation of pipeline and erecting utility poles have been prohibited for the next three months.
“There will be strict surveillance to enforce the rule. Even inner roads and streets will be monitored,” said Shiva Hari Sapkota, regional director at DoR.
The rule was introduced because digging of roads during rainy season will only inconvenience the people and motorists.
