Flash flood triggered by heavy rains destroyed at least six houses at Naugadh Rural Municipality in Darchula district on Wednesday. There were no reports of casualties.

 Chairman of Naugadh Rural Municipality Prem Singh Dhami said hundreds of families at Hoparigadh settlement were at high risk after Wednesday’s flash flood.

There is a great risk of erosion and further flood in the area. The vulnerable households have been advised to relocate to safe areas immediately.

Meanwhile, floodwaters from Naugadh stream destroyed a large area of farmland. The rain-swollen stream also swept away several wooden bridges, obstructing the movement of villagers.

A power station of Godhani Khola Small Hydropower Project at Naugadh-1 was also damaged, said Dhami.

Similarly, landslides triggered by heavy rains obstructed the Khar-Dhuligada road at several places.

In some parts of Naugadh, floods and landslides destroyed communication lines. Many settlements are out of contact as a result, Dhami said.

The District Police Office has deployed a team to the flood and landslide-hit areas to help the locals.

Mahakali river hits 215,000 cusec mark

KANCHANPUR: The water level in Mahakali River has increased due to torrential rainfall since early Wednesday morning, posing threat to the residents living along the riverbank. According to the Area Police Office in Gaddachowki, Kanchanpur, the water flow in the river was measured at 215,000 cusec at 4pm on Wednesday.

The local administration has prohibited movement of four-wheelers across the Banbasa bridge. Last week, the water flow in Mahakali was recorded at 145,000 cusec.
