They have been demanding the government allow them to ply 32-seat buses and 13-ton trucks on the highway. On Saturday, the protesters blocked the BP Highway one-way at Hirapani road section in Kamalapani Municipality-4, demanding a withdrawal of the SC order.
Kanchhaman Bal of the BP Highway Transport Service Committee said they were protesting the apex court decision as it had been troubling them.
On June 4, the SC had ordered the authorities concerned to ban heavy vehicles on the BP Highway, and only allow 10-toone goods carriers and 18-seat passenger vehicles.
The SC order has affected the daily life of people in Ramechhap, Dolakha, Okhaldhunga and Sindhuli, the businessmen claimed. They said the BP Highway was the only route that links the four districts with the Tarai.
