Nepal Media Society and Radio Broadcasters Forum Nepal on Monday dismissed Ministry of Information and Communications’ statement on royalty collection as ‘misleading’.Nepal Media Society and Radio Broadcasters Forum Nepal on Monday dismissed Ministry of Information and Communications’ statement on royalty collection as ‘misleading’.
Dismissing the statement issued by the Ministry of Information and Communications, the organisations said it “does not have any truth”.
The ministry had named both media organisations in a committee formed to manage royalty collection.
In a statement issued on July 11, the ministry had said that the Music Royalty Collection Society Nepal (MRCSN), Community Radio Broadcasters Association, Radio Broadcasters Forum Nepal and Nepal Media Society were members of the committee formed under the co-ordination of Nepal Copyright Registrar’s Office.
The statement said a joint standard was prepared to collect tax from MRCSN, Performers’ Society of Nepal (PSN) and Music Producer Society Nepal (MPSN) users to manage and make royalty collection scientific and transparent. “There is no specific standard to collect music royalty so far,” Nepal Media Society and Radio Broadca- sters Forum Nepal said in statement issued on Sunday.
Both the organisations said, “They have no knowledge about the committee formed under the office of Nepal Copyrights (Pratilipi Adhikar) Registrar Office.”
