The central jail has started installing more closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras in order to keep better vigil over inmates mainly during the night time.
The 104-year-old facility situated in Sundhara, Kathmandu, is the biggest prison of the country.
While the prison has nearly two dozen CCTVs in operation, the management started expanding their coverage by installing more cameras to have more effective watch over the inmates.
One of the duty officers said the additional surveillance would provide a 360 degree watch over the prison allowing security officials to curtail infighting and jailbreaks.
Officials claimed that the prison has a good record of mitigating fights between inmates.
