Dhakal, who has gained notoriety for embezzling government funds wherever he is posted, embezzled Rs39.83 million while he was working as account officer at Katari municipality, Udayapur and Rs32.45 million at Mai Municipality in Ilam. It is the largest revenue embezzlement case that has ever transpired at the local level, CIAA officials said.
Based on complaints, the anti-graft body arrested him last week of April. According to the CIAA, he stands accused of syphoning Rs39.75 million from the coffers of Katari Municipality to his personal account by forging signatures.
He had even drawn salary of the same month twice and created grounds for receiving additional amount by forging documents.
The CIAA said in a statement on Monday that Dhakal had misappropriated the Mai Municipality funds by submitting forged documents at the bank and other offices to syphone the amount into his account and creating fake bank vouchers.
