The campaign saw participants hike along the Black Mountain in Wales. The Hike for Nepal event was organised by We Will Rise Foundation, which also organised a similar event in Hong Kong earlier this year.
Speaking at the event, Nepali Ambassador to the UK Durga Bahadur KC remembered that it was Sir George Everest, a British citizen, who gave the name to the highest mountain peak in the world. KC added that events like this “not only promote the exchange of goodwill and camaraderie between the people from the two countries but also contribute to promote Nepal’s tourism.”
The event in the UK also saw participation by record-holding Everest summiteer Phurba Tenzing Sherpa and Thaneshwor Guragain, who holds Guiness World Records in 16 categories.
Tulasi Gurung, chairperson of the organiser We Will Rise Foundation, said that he hopes the event would be helpful in the promotion of the Visit Nepal 2020 campaign. According to the Nepali Embassy in the UK approximately 51,000 British tourists visited Nepal in the year 2017 and they aim attract 50,000 more tourists by 2020.
