The Education and Health Committee under the House of Representatives(HoR) is planning to hold discussions with Dr Govinda KC and the concerned people regarding the National Medical Education Bill- 2075 BS.
The committee’s meeting on Sunday decided to consult with the offcials of the Mathema Commission, the office-bearers of Nepal Medical Council, Dr KC, and the concerned stakeholders, said committee member Man Bahadur Bishwakarma.
At Sunday’s meeting, Prem Suwal said the state should provide free education and health facilities to all within next five years.
Rajan KC said the government must focus on opening medical colleges and big hospitals in all provinces.
Brinda Pandey stressed the need of inclusive admission of students in state-run medical schools.
Lawmaker Khagaraj Adhikari suggested that before taking any decisions, the committee must be aware of the practical aspects of making health and education free. Earlier, Minister of Education, Science and Technology Giriraj Mani Pokhrel had pledged to provide free medical education to poor students by introducing special provisions.
“The bill will focus on maintaining quality in the education and health sectors. We will establish a system that guarantees justice to the socially excluded community. For that, a collective understanding among all the concerned parties is necessary,” Pokhrel said.
