Maintenance is key

Aug 21, 2018-

It was my pleasure to read a few tittles related to transportation in today’s TKP (“Kathmandu-Kerung railway: Project to cost 257 billions”, Aug 20, TKP Online). Transportation plays a catalytic role in the development of any country. Our planning, innovation, expertise and financial resources have already proved that we need to develop sustainable means of transport routes rather than just depending on feasibility study or imagination. Regarding construction of railway crossing the majestic mountains between Nepal-China border, it needs viable philosophy with utilisation capacity of the people on this part of the land in nearly one decade later. We need to have state of art technology, expertise, maintenance capability and above all materials (such as iron and steel) and money to finance its maintenance at least to Nepali side. We need sustainable roadways, bridges, airports, environment-friendly construction in the mountains and effective railways as well as big airports in Tarai. But above all, there maintenance will be of utmost importance.
